New Topiaries on Central Plaza at Disneyland Paris

Central Plaza at Disneyland Paris is gaining a wonderful new centrepiece: living Disney sculptures, known as topiaries, inspired by beloved characters. The first one is already in place — and if you’re visiting soon, it’s absolutely not to be missed.

What is a topiary?

A topiary is a living sculpture: a shrub or plant that has been carefully and skilfully shaped into a decorative or figurative form. At Disneyland Paris, these horticultural works of art are an integral part of the overall experience — as much a part of the park as the music and the attractions.

The Cheshire Cat is already here

The very first new topiary has taken its place on Central Plaza: a rendition of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. With his iconic grin and colourful appearance, he is not only a beautiful addition to the park, but also a perfect photo opportunity for the whole family — right in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

In the coming weeks, Tick Tock Croc from Peter Pan will be joining him: the green crocodile with the clock in his belly that you simply never forget. Together, they will form a playful ensemble that makes Central Plaza feel just that little bit more magical.

Collaboration behind the scenes

The new topiaries are the result of a remarkable collaboration between three teams: Walt Disney Imagineering Paris (creative design), the Horticulture team (the gardeners), and the Entertainment Workshops (technical realisation). Virginie Debray, Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, explains:

“To bring our creative teams’ vision to life and make it achievable, we worked hand in hand with the Horticulture team for the planting and the Entertainment Workshops for the design. Having access to such a broad range of expertise and talent means we can deliver beautiful projects like this one — and add just a little more magic to our guests’ day.”
