Sail away with Jack Sparrow!
The iconic boat ride Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland is a masterpiece of storytelling and richly detailed scenery. When it opened in 1992, this attraction set the standard for immersive dark rides in Europe — and it remains one of the most beloved experiences in the park to this day. The breathtaking transition from a serene, star-filled night into a blazing harbour town overrun by mutinous pirates is truly in a class of its own.
The Magical 2017 Update
Following a sweeping and spectacular refurbishment in 2017, the ride now weaves seamlessly into the world of the hugely popular film series. A remarkably lifelike animatronic of Captain Jack Sparrow is woven subtly into the experience, hiding in plain sight at various points along the route. Be sure to keep an eye out for the famous jail scene, where a band of desperate pirates does their very best to coax a set of keys from a rather stubborn dog!
Tips for Little Pirates
- Dine at Captain Jack’s: Book a table at Captain Jack’s – Restaurant des Pirates for the chance to watch the attraction’s boats glide past whilst you eat, set against the backdrop of a beautiful Caribbean lagoon.
- Two Hidden Drops: Hold on tight! This version of the ride features two surprising and splashy drops in the dark. Make sure any electronics are safely stowed away before you set sail.
