In Disney Adventure World, more than 1,500 trees and hundreds of thousands of shrubs and bushes have been planted to deepen the immersive experience for guests. Behind these planting choices — designed first and foremost to enrich the atmosphere — lie genuine benefits for the local ecosystem. To mark International Day for Biological Diversity, we take a closer look at the plants that support pollinators.
Planting that serves both guest experience and biodiversity
The rhododendrons and roses lining Adventure Way contribute to the visual identity and atmosphere of the area. But thanks to their nectar- and pollen-rich blooms, these honey plants also provide a valuable food source for insects. It is a beautiful illustration of how landscape design can enhance both the guest experience and biodiversity in equal measure.
Early-flowering trees as an essential resource for pollinators
Among the trees planted throughout the park, flowering cherry trees (Prunus) and serviceberries (Amelanchier lamarckii) stand out for their early bloom. From the very first days of spring, they offer an essential resource at a critical moment for pollinators. Japanese pagoda trees (Sophora japonica) naturally produce flowers that are rich in nectar, attracting a wide variety of insects.
This is a fine example of how landscape choices designed primarily for the guest experience can also contribute to enriching biodiversity.
Did you know?
Prunus, serviceberries and roses all belong to the Rosaceae family. Thanks to the wide variety of fruits they produce — including strawberries, apples, plums and pears — trees and shrubs from this flowering plant family are a true promise of natural abundance. Serviceberries are particularly popular with birds!
Japanese pagoda trees are naturally drought-resistant and help enrich the soil by fixing nitrogen. Nitrogen plays an important role in photosynthesis — and therefore in plant growth.
