The legendary mine train roller coaster Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland Paris is truly one of a kind across all Disney parks worldwide. As the only version situated entirely on an island at the heart of Frontierland, guests reach the runaway train by travelling through darkened underwater tunnels. The History of the Mine
According to the legends of Thunder Mesa, the mountain was discovered by gold prospectors in the late 19th century. Yet a mysterious curse had long been cast upon the mountain. The indigenous people warned of a powerful Thunderbird that watched over and protected the land. When the greedy prospectors dug too deep, they awoke the creature’s fury, triggering a catastrophic earthquake. Today, the abandoned mine trains hurtle along the crumbling tracks entirely on their own!
