By KTW Magazine — your number one source for everything Disneyland Paris

On 5 June it was World Environment Day, and Disneyland Paris used the occasion to share something that genuinely gave us pause: the resort isn’t simply throwing green buzzwords around — it’s showing that it means business. Their strategy is built around five pillars: emissions, water, waste, materials & circular economy, sustainable design, and — very specific to Disneyland Paris — biodiversity.

Disney shared seven concrete figures that reveal what’s happening behind the scenes to reduce the resort’s ecological footprint. And trust us: some of those numbers are truly remarkable. We’ve laid them all out for you, KTW-style.

1. 36 GWh per year from solar energy

36 GWh generated annually by the solar canopy above the main car park at Disneyland Paris

The enormous solar canopy above the visitor car park generates 36 GWh of electricity every year. To put that into perspective: that’s enough energy to power a town of 17,400 residents. Every time you park your car, you’re quite literally standing beneath a mini power station. How magical is that?

2. 18% of heating from geothermal energy

A full 18% of the heating and hot water across both Disney parks and the iconic Disneyland Hotel comes from geothermal energy. Deep beneath the ground, heat is captured and brought to the surface to warm showers, cosy restaurants, and comfortable hotel rooms. Quite literally, magic from the earth.

3. −14% gas consumption thanks to a new heat pump

A brand-new thermo-cooling heat pump reduces gas consumption by 14% at Disneyland Paris

Fresh news: a brand-new thermo-cooling heat pump — which both recovers heat and provides cooling — has reduced natural gas consumption by 14% compared to 2019. An invisible hero working quietly behind the scenes, making a direct contribution to lower CO₂ emissions.

4. 4.9 million m³ of drinking water saved

Since 2013, Disneyland Paris has saved an impressive 4.9 million cubic metres of drinking water through its own water treatment facility. Recycled water is used for irrigation and cleaning, keeping precious drinking water available for where it’s truly needed.

5. 31 tonnes of costumes recycled

Cast Member costumes are recycled — 31 tonnes in 2024 and 2025, nearly 43,000 individual garments

The thousands of Cast Members at Disneyland Paris wear beautiful themed costumes — but what happens when those costumes reach the end of their life? In 2024 and 2025, 31 tonnes of operational costumes were recycled, the equivalent of nearly 43,000 individual garments. Circular economy, the Disney way.

6. 400 nesting boxes and shelters for wildlife

Disneyland Paris sits within a large natural area, and it shows: there are now 400 nesting boxes and shelters for beneficial wildlife dotted across the resort grounds. Birds, bats, insects — all are welcome. Biodiversity isn’t an afterthought here; it’s a serious pillar of the resort’s approach.

7. −17% food waste

Disneyland Paris reduces food waste by 17% between 2022 and 2025

And finally, perhaps the most tangible figure for guests: between 2022 and 2025, food waste fell by 17%. Whether you’re grabbing a croissant at the breakfast buffet or picking up a Mickey pretzel in the park, there’s a great deal of effort going on behind the scenes to ensure nothing goes to waste.

What do we at KTW Magazine think?

Honestly? This is exactly why we love Disneyland Paris so much. Not only because it’s the most wonderful place on earth, but because it shows that a theme park of this scale can genuinely invest in a more sustainable future. Solar panels above your car, geothermal energy beneath your hotel room, recycled costumes, reduced waste, and hundreds of nesting boxes for local wildlife — this isn’t a marketing story, these are measurable results.

With the transformation into Disney Adventure World and all the exciting new developments taking shape across the resort, it’s wonderful to see that sustainability isn’t being left on the sidelines — it’s growing right alongside everything else. A big thumbs-up from us.
